How it all went down
On the fateful day, Mwenyi left Tororo to visit his girl friend at Nakulabye Trading Center located near Makerere university. It is alleged that while at his girlfriend’s place the two quarrelled over a message he found on her phone. He suspected the message was from her another man.
”He grabbed the girlfriend’s phone and walked out of the house. The girlfriend followed him begging him to give back her phone but the officer simply walked on.” said Oweyesigire.

After failing to get the phone from the man peacefully the girl got annoyed and sounded an alarm while shouting and pointing at the officer that he had stolen her phone.
A mob then descended on the officer and beat him into a comma. His pleas that he was not a thief fell on deaf ears.
The police later came and took him to the mortuary thinking he was dead and gone. However, while at the hospital doctors observed that he was still alive and he was rushed to the hospital where he is being treated.
Police are hunting for the girlfriend and the people who beat up the police officer. Officer Oweyigire said they are using CCTV camera footage to hunt down those who were in the mob that beat up the officer.
