Legal Action Taken: Officer in Custody for Rape Allegations

A police officer in Uganda’s western district of Rukiga has been remanded by area magistrate’s court over allegations of raping a female suspect.

Venerito Muhumuza ,a police officer at Kashambya police post in Rukiga district has been remanded by magistrate Samuel Emokoru to Ndorwa prison until May 5 .

According to prosecution, Muhumuza was on night duty on Saturday when a 30 yr old suspect only identified as Atenyi was booked over stealing 1 million shillings from a Mobile money operator.

The woman was locked in the women’s cell.

Just after midnight Muhumuza went and removed the woman from the cell and took her to the reception room and raped her for over 2 hours. He took her back to the cell at dawn.

In the morning,after his work shift he went to his home and another group of policemen took over.
When Atenyi was brought out to clean up the place,she complained to the officer in charge of the police post that she had been raped by Muhumuza.

Muhumuza was arrested and taken to court where he has been charged of raping a suspect and has been remanded.
