The social media platform is buzzing after a lyrically explicit video by Ghanaian musician, Wanlov the Kubolor popped up. The song, “Trumu” was released on January 13 and started trending on Twitter weeks after for its subtitles. The song features Saint Beryl aka The Maami. Trumu features Wanlov on a beach alongside an older woman. The explicit lyrics are about the music artiste desiring to have anal sex with a love interest.

Her listeners pointed out a misdirection due to the titling of the video. The subtitles like, “Africa is beautiful” deviate from the actual lyrics of the hit.

Other social media users expressed their anger at the song’s adoration of anal sex especially in the light of the debate about improper sexual conduct in Ghana and LGBT rights.

Wanlov the Kubolor alias Emmanuel Owusu Bonsu is popular for his support of LGBT rights in Ghana and his outspokenness against the anti-LGBT bill presently being considered before Parliament.

The anti-LGBTQ bill faces changes by a parliamentary committee before it becomes law. According to rights groups, if the bill is passed it may lead to harassment of sexual minorities and their allies. Therefore they may be forced to report their activities to relevant authorities.

The law would make it illegal to be a member of the LGBTQ community or to have sex or a same-sex relationship. It would also outlaw marrying or plans to marry a person who has changed their sex through a surgical process with up to five years in jail.

The anti-LGBTQ bill deals with “gross indecency in public.” Any PDA of love between people of the same sex, people who have changed their sex through a surgical process and those who identify as a different gender from their sex will also be termed as illegal. The bill will also forbid “cross-dressing” hence anyone who dresses in a way that doesn’t match their biological sex will also be prosecuted.
