Popular musician Sister Derby has shared her perspective on President John Dramani Mahama’s stance on LGBTQ in Ghana. According to Sister Derby, the former President is using religion to gather votes from the public. Derby noted that politicians ride on the wave of Transphobia and Homophobia to get the masses who are swayed by religious beliefs to vote for them.

Mr Mahama recently spoke to church leaders during his church tour in Koforidua. He said that he didn’t support the LGBTQ community due to his church beliefs but emphasized against mistreating them in Ghana. Sister Derby felt that Mahama was making a mistake asserting that politicians should choose their words carefully since they may have friends and partners in the LGBTQ community.

According to Sister Derby, the LGBTQ community is not asking for approval of their relationships but advocating for basic human rights including the right to live peacefully.

Sister Derby wrote, “Our politicians always choose their words carefully because they all have acquaintances and business partners who are queer so they would never say they are against LGBTQ people but they would rather say carefully that they are against marriage between persons of the same sex.

They know that not all nations approve of marriage of the same sex so they fall on that reason.LGBTQ persons in Ghana NEVER asked for marriage. They only ask for basic human rights and to be left in peace.

Politicians ride on the wave of homophobia and transphobia to get the masses who are brainwashed with religion to vote for them. But who religion epp?”
