Kakira trading center, located in the Eastern Region of Uganda, is an unassuming town in Jinja where at first glance nothing much is happening.

The only major landmark in the area and is Kakira Sugar Limited, owned by Madhvani Group, a diversified conglomerate involved in agribusiness, manufacturing, insurance, leisure services, and other business interests.

Before Madhvani Group of Companies started developing the area, many people had deserted the area due to tsetse fly infestation.

Today, the town is thriving and the number of people in Kakira is on the rise. 

Meet the broke sharp veined cutters of Kakira

As part of its quest ‘to sweeten the pearl of Africa’ a lot of hands are needed to harvest sugarcane. According to the Kakira Sugar company’s website, the factory crush over 6,000 tons of cane per day.

To get the job done, the company employs more than 7,500 people. The majority of them come from Arua, Gulu and Soroti to cut sugarcane.

All these men need some sex release at the end of the day, a fact that has attracted sex workers to the area like flies.

Sex workers to the rescue

According to Swabra Nafula, one of the sex workers’ leaders operating in Kakira trading center, many workers in the factory, especially those in the lower ranks like sugar cane cutters and those who dig in sugar plantations leave their wives behind in the villages and come stay alone in Kakira and it’s surroundings to save money.

One thing they don’t leave behind is, however, is their cocks and sexual appetite. The sugar cane cutters keep the sex workers in the area busy all night and day. 

Loyalty pays but I will keep your ID just incase

Being casual workers with no consistent money stream there is, however, the little issue of money. The sex workers now have a solution for that.

”Kakira sugar factory has over 4000 casual workers who are paid at the end of every month. Many of them come for our services but in the last 2 weeks of the month, they are always broke with no money to pay us for sex. Since they are our loyal customers we resolved to offer them sex on credit.” said Nafula.

To ensure the sugarcane cutters actually kept their word and paid up for services rendered and to just make sure who fucked who, the sex workers needed some form of insurance.

There’s nothing sweeter than free sex*

The cutters leave their national identity cards with the service provider. Keneth Ouma, a local leader in the trading center, says he is aware of the arrangement but as leaders, they do not have any problem with it.

 ”There are two things which sugar cane plantations workers cannot do without. That is alcohol and sex. ” Ouma said.

Those who get sex on credit make sure that they pay at the end of the month because failure to do so would result in the sex workers taking the Identity cards to the police and they will be arrested.

After a hard day at work, the sugarcane cutters normally head directly to Polota Ward, a squalid dwelling dotted with unplanned mud-walled rusty roofed houses withing Kakira, where they imbibe on local gin called Waragi made from molasses.

Some of them even pay for the brew a week in advance just so that they don’t miss it.
