The brothel is called Texas and is located in Gayaza parish, about 16 kilometers from the country’s capital Kampala.
Over 200 students up for grabs
According to Chris Muga, who stays near the brothel, there are about 200 university students operating from the brothel.
Mr. Muga says after Uganda went into lockdown and universities were closed due to Covid-19 some female university students who come from far away decided to venture into sex work to fend for themselves.
Covid-19 to blame
One of the students working as a sex worker who sought anonymity said tough times brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic had forced them to reduce their sex prices in order to attract more clients.
‘We used to ask for 10,000 shillings as the standard fee per round of sex before Covid-19 struck but now we have slashed it to 5000. We have done so in order to attract more customers” she said.
