Lubricants popularly known as lubes are gels used during sex mostly to reduce friction and also increase pleasure. Using a lubricant during sex doesn’t have to be the last option when you go dry. Lubricants come in different flavours and they may induce different sensations including hot and or cooling effects when they are applied during intercourse. Here are important things to consider when using a lube:

Warm It In Your Hands Before Applying It

Your body is likely to be warmer than room temperature where you store your lube bottle. The lube can feel cold when it touches your body. To make it a bit warm, you can rub it between your hands before applying the lube. Another way to warm your lube during sex is by filling a glass with warm water and setting the closed bottle of lube in the glass and allowing it to warm for ten to fifteen minutes before applying it. Remember to check the temperature using two or three drops of the lube on your hand during intimacy.

You must not wait for intercourse for you to take out the lube. You can use the lube during foreplay like rubbing it on the nipples, vulva or clitoris. You can also use it for an erotic or sensual massage for pre-intercourse stimulation. Using lubes together with condoms can decrease the chances of contracting STIs since it allows for less friction which could contribute to condom tearing. Avoid using oil-based lube with latex condoms as it can break down the latex and make the condom weak hence increasing the chances of the condom breaking during sex.
