FGM Horror: Women Arrested In Senegal After Cutting Genitals Of 12 Girls
An unidentified number of female circumcisers in Senegal have been arrested a few months after they vowed to abandon the hideous act. The circumcisers based in Keur Massar were arrested after it was established that they cut the genitals of twelve girls. The culprits were traced to their apartments where they were found to have been operating prior to the arrest.
Fatoumata Mamadou Lamine, the Executive Secretary of the Senegalese Association for the Future of Women and Children (Asafe), disclosed that FGM is still practised in certain localities of Senegal, especially in the suburbs of Dakar.

A member of the Association for the Future of Women and Children (Asafe) revealed, “They were arrested by the police before being taken to answer for their actions before the judge. They had circumcised 12 girls,” Figures from Ansd show that close to two million girls and women have undergone Female Genital Mutilation(FGM).

Joyce Amos an internet user, recounted her experience of losing her daughter to FGM. She tweeted, “My Baby-Girl Died Few Hours After Birth Because Of FGM! At the age of 13, I was forcefully pulled out of school in July 2012, and in December 2012, my father organised for me to be circumcised. They used a knife to forcefully mutilate me…”
Tina Matts tweeted, “That all can not be explained with common sense, how cruel it is what is done to these girls by parents, fathers,again&again! How COLD are these people, to commit this cruel crime yes, CRIMES! on one’s own child, inflict such pain on children.”
