Man rapes grandmother

Police in Nigeria have arrested a 44-year-old man for allegedly raping a 92-year-old woman.

The suspect has been identified as one Zakariya Ya’u who hails from Borno State.

Commissioner of Police in Borno State,Mr Abdu Umar, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Thursday that Ya’u, allegedly committed the crime at Mufa “A’’ ward in Askira Uba Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Police Commissioner, the woman was sitting close to an uncompleted building when the 44-year-old man dragged her into the building and raped her mercilessly on March 24.

Given her advanced age, the old woman wasn’t able to defend herself against her rapist and could only scream helplessly for help.

Mr. Umar said that the accused was caught red handed pants down by one Usman Haruna, a 29- year-old grandson of the victim who immediately alerted the police leading to the suspect was arrested.

“The grandson caught him on top of the woman with his trousers down and a charm tied around his waist,’’ the police commissioner said.

Ya’u has since admitted to the crime and the case is currently under investigation and the suspect is expected to be arraigned in court at a later date.
