Meet Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka is professional Japanese tennis player who has grabbed international headlines since she entered the court.

Since hitting the professional circuit in 2013, the 24-year-old player is now a four-time Grand Slam singles champion and the first Asian player to hold the number 1 ranking.

She ranks as the world’s highest-paid female athlete, having earned $57 million in 2021, mostly from sponsorships.

With her massive, incredible forehand and fearless determination, she is definitely poised to become one of the game’s all-time greats.

Enter LeBron James

On June 21, 2022, Ms. Osaka announced to the world that she is launching her own media company called Hana Kuma.

In a brief Zoom interview Ms. Osaka, laid out her vision for the company.

“We’ll bring stories to life with this goal: to make unique perspectives feel universal and inspire people along the way” said Osaka.

Ms. Osaka’s company will be working in partnership with SpringHill, a fast-growing entertainment, marketing and products company co-founded by American professional basketball player who just entered into the league of billionaires LeBron James.

Speaking by phone Mr. James said he was over the moon working with the world’s highest-paid female athlete and that Ms. Osaka’s “grace and power” on and off the court made her a good match for SpringHill, “which exists to empower athlete creators.”

“We don’t take for granted the position we are in to lend a helping hand, in this case to Naomi, to help empower her to do even more great things,” Mr. James said.

According to Osaka some of the content Hana Kuma will be producing will include scripted and unscripted television series, documentaries, anime and branded content, which is entertainment programming that has embedded or integrated advertising.

SpringHill, co-founded by Lebrown and Maverick Carter in 2020, will serve as a financing, operations and producing partner for Hana Kuma. SpringHill has roughly 200 employees and was valued at $725 million when selling a minority stake to raise capital last year.

What the fuck is Hana Kuma

Hana Kuma stands for “flower bear” in Japanese. The name, however, has caused a stir in Kenya where it means something completely different.

In Swahili, Hana Kuma – means the person has no Vagina.

Since making the big announcement, the news of Naomi Osaka Hana Kuma media company has been trending across the globe.
