Meg Whitman Says She Will Advance Efforts To Stand Up For LGBTQI Community
United States Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman says she is committed to continuing the fight for the LGBTQI community. On her Twitter page, Meg asserted that she lauds efforts to protect the LGBTQI community, she tweeted,
“Over the past week, my team and I met with the LGBTQI+ community & stakeholders to support the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons. The U.S. proudly advances efforts to protect LGBTQI+ persons from discrimination & violence and will continue to stand up for human rights & equality,”
The LGBTQI community has been on the receiving end of blasts from the social media community after the supreme court made a ruling and allowed the registration of the group and freedom of association.
The court ruled, “It would be unconstitutional to limit the right to associate through denial of registration of an association purely on the basis of the sexual orientation of the applicants,”
The controversial decision has made many members of the LGBTQI community fear for their security. Parents, politicians, and religious leaders have weighed down on the issue.
Concerning the issue, President William Ruto on March 2 said, “We respect the court but I will not allow it in Kenya. We have our culture and traditions, we respect our constitution and all our religions,”
