Sex is much affordable in Uganda’s capital Kampala if you know where to look for it.

In Kampala’s suburb/slum of Bwaise, women and girls some as young as 16 years sell themselves for a penny. For just 200 Uganda shillings which is slightly above half a dollar you can make out with any of them you fancy. One US dollar is worth 3700 Uganda shillings.

Bwaise is located 3 miles North of Kampala and has several local bars and brothels.

”I cannot starve sexually when I know that I can buy sex for only 2000 shillings in Bwaise,” said Amos Kizito, an office messenger in Kampala.

”It is cheaper nowadays to buy sex than having a girlfriend. Girlfriends demand a lot of money yet what we want from them can be bought at affordable in places like Bwaise.”

Why is sex so dirt cheap in Bwaise?

Bwaise is one of Kampala’s largest urban slums and as such life is hard here. The area suffers severe flooding whenever skies open up, causing disease outbreaks such as cholera and typhoid. Up to today, Bwaise does not have a piped water system.

It’s no wonder then why sex come cheap here.

Asked why they sell themselves cheaply, 17-year-old Charity Namwase said; ”We are very many girls selling ourselves and therefore the law of demand and supply applies.”

She said that she is a High school student but sells herself at night so as to get money to pay her fees and personal use.

At exotic places like near Sheraton hotel, sex workers sell at themselves for much higher, way higher than Bwaise at only 100,000 Ugandan shillings.
