During the Governors Awards, Angela Bassett was awarded an Oscar award for her excellent work in the TV/film and the sweet moment that she exchanged with her fellow actress Regina King got Netizens talking. After presenting Angela with the award, Regina used the chance to reflect on the time they spent working alongside each other in the entertainment industry.
Angela hugged the director passionately and kissed her shortly on the lips before the duo parted ways. In her short speech she said,
“This honour isn’t just for or about me. I hope this moment means that we are taking the necessary steps toward a future in which it is the norm, not the exception, to see and embrace one another’s full humanity, stories and perspectives. This must be our goal, and to always remember that there is room for us all.” She finished her speech by referencing the poet Maya Angelou. “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”.

Bassett has been nominated for two Oscars. She was nominated for best actress for her role as Tina Turner in, ” What’s Love Got to Do With It,” in 1993. Bassett was also nominated for her role as Queen Ramonda in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in 2022.
