Broad City Fame’s Abbi Jacobson and Ted Lasso alum Jodi Balfour wed in a New York City ceremony after dating for four years. The duo tied the knot at the Public Records restaurant and music venue in New York, the couple announced on Instagram at the beginning of the month.
The couple who started dating in 2020 had planned to have an outdoor ceremony and dinner but they had to pivot following torrential rain.
Speaking to Cultured Magazine, Abby, 40 said, “It was such kismet, because the ceremony was not what we expected, but it was exactly what we’d hoped for. People were packed together. When we looked out at the audience, our friends were on stools, peeking through the plants, and sitting on top of the booths.”
The couple exchanged vows clad in dresses by the Row, with Abbi sporting a black strapless gown and Jodi a sleeveless white one. During the post-wedding party, the duo changed into Versace chainmail and Vivienne Westwood respectively and danced to Aretha Franklin’s “Don’t Let Me Lose This Dream.”
Jacobson said: “It was such kismet, because the ceremony was not what we expected, but it was exactly what we’d hoped for. People were packed together. When we looked out at the audience, our friends were on stools, peeking through the plants, and sitting on top of the booths. I’ve never been to a wedding like that.”
Balfour added: “Because of the rain, our outdoor seated dinner became an indoor buffet. I remember calling Emma, the chef, on the brink of tears about the idea of a goddamn buffet. We had been planning the seated dinner for months. Emma said, ‘It’s going to be beautiful. There will be no bunsen burners.’”
