Agya Koo Condemns Sex Scenes In Ghanaian Movies
Actor Kofi Adu famously known as Agya Koo has urged filmmakers in Ghana to tone down sex scenes in the movies and the use of insults in dialogue. While expressing his concerns during a radio show on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Kofi criticized how graphic sex is portrayed in films and cited its significant impact on social norms especially among youth who were viewing it.
According to Agya, children who watch such movies are likely to adopt negative behaviours that include influence by explicit scenes and the use of abusive language. Some of the examples he pointed out are from various film industries like Bollywood where romantic interactions are implied instead of being explicitly depicted.
Also, the Kumawood actor recounted an instance when he was approached by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who expressed dismay over the prevalence of insults and graphic content in Ghanaian movies.

Agya Koo shared with the host of the show, Kwame Dadzie that he has advised filmmakers severally about such practices fearing that it could drive audiences towards foreign productions. Koo however faced opposition within the film industry because of his campaign.
In spite of encountering resistance, Agya expressed his gratitude for the kind of support he was accorded by filmmakers who shared his concerns. Agya affirmed his commitment to improving the film industry and mobilized his colleagues to join hands in pushing for more responsible content creation.
