Add Variety to Your Dates
Campbell shares that mixing up ideas at the beginning of a relationship is a great idea. Instead of sticking to just a single date idea like Netflix and chill, try to break the monotony by enjoying the company of friends and colleagues, going for lunch dates and taking morning walks or runs together. A potential road to breakup is monotony therefore you and your partner should avoid getting stuck in a rut. Remember you both don’t have to break the bank to enjoy your dates.
Don’t Skip The Sexual Health Conversation
Campbell advises new couples to wait until they are both comfortable to have an honest conversation about their sexual health before they can both become intimate. That way couples can enjoy getting intimate and have more confidence in their relationship. If you feel that you are not yet comfortable asking them about STDs then it means you are not yet comfortable to have sex.
Watch Out for Red Flags
The relationship expert tells new couples that ignoring red flags in a new relationship prolongs the inevitable end of the relationship. It’s an easy thing to throw a pair of rose-coloured glasses when you fall in love with somebody because you want to see the best in them. If your new love makes plans and repeatedly cancels them, treats people poorly or criticizes you, then it’s worth noting that it’s not worth investing in the relationship in the long run.
Don’t Have Sex Too Soon
We live in a time of sex positivity, which means that you don’t have to wait for a certain amount of time to elapse for you to have sex with your partner for the first time. The amount of time every partner should wait differs for every couple therefore there’s no such thing as too soon or too long for a couple to have sex. Campbell asserts that the right time for couples to have sex is when the time is right.
Respect Yourself
Treating yourself with utmost respect in a relationship sets an example of how your partner should treat you. It also signifies what you can and you won’t tolerate from your partner. It is highly crucial that you know yourself and be yourself in a relationship. Say if your partner invites you out to an impromptu date but what you need is self-care it’s okay to postpone the date to a later day you are comfortable with.
