Twenty-year-old Mujahid’s life took a different turn after undergoing a gender reassignment surgery. The surgery was planned by another man who colluded with doctors from a medical college in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar. This case led to protests by the Bharatiya Kisan Union( BKU).
Residents of Sanjak village and Mujahid claim that the latter was deceived by Omprakash on June 3. Omprakash reportedly convinced the doctors at the college to perform a surgery involving the removal of Mujahid’s genitals and a forced gender change.
Mujahid alleged that Omprakash had threatened and harassed him for over two years. Omprakash accompanied him to a medical facility on allegations that Mujahid had a medical issue that required hospital inspection. The hospital staff administered anaesthesia and performed the gender-change operation.
Mujahid reminisced, “He brought me here, and the next morning I had an operation. When I regained consciousness, I was told that I had been changed from a boy to a girl, “Omprakash reportedly forced him to live with him, adding that nobody from his family or community would accept him back.
“He said, ‘I changed you from a man to a woman and now you have to live with me. I have prepared a lawyer and prepared a court marriage for you. Now I will shoot your father and the land of your share will be named after me and then I will sell it and go to Lucknow’,” Mujahid recalled.
Former leader of BKU workers, Shyam Pal, said that Mujahid’s father filed a police complaint that led to Omprakash’s arrest. Pal however called for stricter action, demanding compensation for Rs 2 crore for Mujahid, whose life has been severely affected by the incident.
Senior Muzaffarnagar police officer Ramashish Yadav shared, “All the allegations made by the family and the protestors will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate legal actions will be taken against those found guilty,”
The police are still investigating the hospital staff involved in the case following Omprakash’s arrest.
