‘Manipulative’ man Bradley Smith, from Chelmsford Jailed for Twelve Years After Filming sex Assaults
A man who took a video of himself assaulting a woman sexually and threatening to share the video online has been put behind bars for 12 years. According to a statement read to Chelmsford Crown Court, the victim said, “I was left feeling numb and emotionless like I was not a human being anymore,”
Bradley Smith,46, was found guilty of assault by penetration and also engaging in controlling behaviour following a trial. Smith had denied the offences but admitted disclosing private sexual photographs and nude films to cause distress.
The court was informed that this offending followed a campaign of controlling and coercive behaviour towards the victim. In her statement, she shared: “Bradley had a way of making everything feel like it was my fault.”
The victim reiterated that she felt “guilt, shame and embarrassment” at the degrading footage captured of her while she was “incapacitated”.Judge Mary Loram KC said Smith Chelmsford targeted her vulnerability. The judge said, “You set your sights on her and you knew she was someone who you could manipulate and control,”
Peter Clark said Smith had been impacted by “his demons” and that he had been drug-free for two years in a bid to better himself. Judge Loram imposed a restraining order to ban him from contacting the victim or her family for an indefinite amount of time.
