Jay-Z’s Mother Marries Longtime Girlfriend, Roxanne Wilshire

Jay-Z’s mother, Gloria Carter has tied the knot with her longtime female lover, Roxanne Wilshire in a star-studded wedding ceremony in New York on Sunday night.TMZ reports that some of the stars who attended the wedding ceremony and reception include Tina Knowles-Lawson, Kelly Rowland, Beyonce, Robin Roberts and Tyler Perry. Jay-Z opened up about his mother coming out to him in a 2017 track dubbed, “Smile”. This was the first time both of them chose to publicly address Gloria’s sexual orientation.

During an interview with David Letterman on Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, Jay-Z revealed that he was happy when he discovered that his mother had found true love. He said that on the realization that his mother was in love with Wilshire, he cried because he was happy. He said, “Imagine having to live your life as someone else and you think you’re protecting your kids,” he said in 2018. “For her to sit in front of me and tell me ‘I think I love someone,’ I really cried…I cried because I was so happy for her that she was free. I cried, that’s a real story. I cried because I was so happy for her that she was free.”
