Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has downplayed monogamy saying that it “doesn’t work’. The Afrobeat singer encouraged men to accept polygamy stressing that each man should consider having several men. During the ‘Bahd and Boujee’ podcast, Seud asserted that having several women demonstrates their power and affluence.

Seun said, “Monogamy doesn’t work. As a powerful man, you must have the support of numerous powerful goddesses. You know, women that are in your life because the ancestors want to put them there.

You share with them.”Seun remembered his late father an Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Kuti who had more than 100 concubines in spite of marrying 27 women in a single day.

Speaking about his late father Fela Kuti, Seun shared that his father had more than 100 concubines who lived in his house while people only knew of his 27 wives.

He said, “People only know of Fela’s 27 wives, they don’t know of his over 100 girlfriends that lived with us in the house,”

Seun Kuti shared that his late father married 27 women on a single day to preserve their dignity since the media branded his band members and dancers as “prostitutes”.

In 1978, Fela got married to 27 women in a single day in a seemingly daring move. Seun is publicly known to be married to a single woman, Yetunde Kuti.
