Rapper Megan Thee Stallion Condemns AI-Generated Sex Video
Rapper Megan Thee Stallion is the latest celebrity to take to social media after being the target of a nude deepfake video that circulated on X platform over the weekend. Megan Thee Stallion posted on X, “It’s really sick how y’all go out of the way to hurt me when you see me winning,”
Megan seemed to be alluding to the fake sex video circulating the video online. She asserted that it was “fake” adding, “Just know today was your last day playing with me and I mean it.”
Deepfakes are basically digital media that are generated using artificial intelligence or other visual and audio manipulation tools. Some prominent examples include “face-swap” individuals, women and girls, into sexually suggestive and pornographic material. Public and private figures have been targeted and deepfake creators can profit from selling the material online.
The platform, Twitter, has been used to spread AI-generated deep fake nudes of celebrities most notably when a series of fake nude photos of Taylor Swift went viral on social media. The New York Times shared that one post was viewed 47 million times before being pulled down.
Other celebrities without a high level of fame have struggled to get the X platform to pull down sexually explicit deep fakes, including Marvel star Xochitl Gomez, who shared that her team couldn’t get her material erased.
Later, X removed some of Gomez’s deep fakes after news sites reached out. Multiple Tiktokers have been targeted with sexually explicit deep fakes on the social media platform.
Megan Thee Stallion has been a target of social media harassment since she was shot in the foot in 2020 by rapper Tory Lanez. Last year, he was sentenced to a decade in prison. Megan’s legal representative asserted that they were “exploring all legal options” that relate to misinformation that was spread about her bloggers.
