Musician Mercy Chinwo and Husband Drag Five People To Court Over Son’s Paternity Claims

A Chief Magistrate Court based in Abuja has summoned five social media users for allegedly defaming gospel singer Mercy Chinwo and her husband, Blessed Uzochikwa.
According to the court summons dating April 3, 2024, Emmanuel Iyanna the Chief Magistrate ordered the five defendants to appear before the court last year to answer charges made against them.
The five complaints are Mercy Chinwo, Ejike Okoronkwo, Blessed Uzochikwa, DJ Spoiltkid, Samuel Agozie and Terrence Ekot. The lawsuit stems from the posts shared on their social media platforms after the gospel musician and her husband shared a photo of their son on their Instagram page.
The defendants commented on the photo alleging that there was a striking resemblance between the baby and a gospel singer, Nathaniel Bassey claiming that he was the father. This allegation went viral on socials.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the lawyers of the complainants, Law Corridor, Mercy Chinwo And her husband asserted that the actions of the defendants resulted in cyberbullying and cyberstalking .
The complainants shared that the actions of the defendants are contrary to Sections 391 of the Penal Code, Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention ) Act 2015.
This happened one day after Nathaniel Bassey shared a petition with the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to prosecute Kingsley Ibeh, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot and Okoronkwo Ejike for cyberstalking and criminal defamation.
