Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o has shared details about their alleged romantic relationship with Janelle Monae. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, the actress revealed that she was aware that people believed they were dating.

Lupita revealed that she met Janelle at a The Met Gala in 2014 adding that the famous songstress gave her a hug of a lifetime which she defined as the most real hug. She said,
“This world is still extremely new to me and unbelievable. Janelle came up to me and just gave me the most real hug, I think we may have swayed to the music. She was just like, ‘I’m so proud of you, and just thank you for being you.”

The actress stated that she didn’t mind being associated with Janelle adding that Janelle has a certain magnetism that made people believe that the two had a romantic relationship.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Lupita said, “She has a magnetism that they were obviously picking up on, she is that enigmatic. I was not surprised. And I don’t mind being associated with her in any capacity.”
Janelle has identified as pansexual and non-binary before. On her Red Table Talk appearance, Monae shed more light on her pansexuality asserting that she is attracted to other people based on their energy and not gender. She revealed, “I don’t see how you identify. And I feel like that opens you up to fall in love with whoever, with any beautiful spirit. I just don’t see myself as a woman, solely, I feel all of my energy. I feel like God is so much bigger than the ‘he’ or the ‘she.’ If I am from God, I am everything. I am everything, but I will always, always stand with women. I will always stand with Black women. But I just see everything that I am beyond the binary.”
