Luis Rubiales Hits Back at Claims His ‘Kissgate’ Scandal Was Sexual Assault
Luis Rubiales, the former Spanish FA president has reiterated that he doesn’t understand why his ‘Kissgate’ scandal has been labelled as sexual assault. In a recent interview with La Sexta, a Spanish broadcaster, Rubiales has called out the judge who charged him with sexual assault following the ‘unwanted’ Hermoso kiss asserting, ‘I think his way of describing my words is manipulative.’
A clip of the interview released showed Rubiales who went to the Dominican Republic earlier at the beginning of this year reacting to claims made by interviewer Ana Pastor that his defence involved attacking the player.
In another clip, he also insisted on his infamous kiss: ‘I cannot understand that anyone could think this was a sexual assault’ before he rejected any coercion reiterating that, ‘I only spoke 10 or 15 seconds with Miss Hermoso.’
Last month public prosecutors who were involved in the ‘kiss gate’ case shared they were seeking a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Rubiales. The entire interview will set to air at 9:30 pm BST however, they have already released an excerpt from the Rubiales discussion.
An indictment shared with Judge Francisco de Jorge, wanted him to be jailed for twelve months if he was found guilty of sexual assault and another 18 months for coercion that was linked to his attempts to get the footballer to speak in his defence after the World Cup kiss.
The Spanish public prosecutors asked Rubiales to be arrested over financial irregularities while in charge of the Spanish FA. The interview that Rubiales addresses the ongoing corruption probe will be released on Wednesday evening.
