DNA Test Reveals That Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle is 43% Nigerian

During a recent visit to Nigeria, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle shared a personal revelation with Nigerians. According to a genealogy test, Meghan is of Nigerian descent. During the second day of her trip to the country, the duchess acknowledged Nigeria as “my country”
This was her first visit to the West African country where she joined hands with Prince Harry in promoting mental wealth initiatives for young girls and veterans according to the report of the Independent. During an event on women in leadership that was co-hosted by the head of the World Trade Organization,  Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Meghan shared,
“It’s been eye-opening to be able to know more about my heritage.” “Never in a million years would I understand it as much as I do now. And what has been echoed so much in the past day is, ‘Oh, we are not so surprised when we found out you are Nigerian’,”

“It is a compliment to you because what they define as a Nigerian woman is brave, resilient, courageous, beautiful,” Meghan told the audience. The duchess had announced on her podcast in October 2022 that she found out through the DNA-based test that she was “43% Nigerian”.Meghan shared her initial reaction after getting wind of her Nigerian heritage through a DNA test.
She said, “The first thing I did was call my mom,” she revealed at the event. “Being African American, part of it is really not knowing so much about your lineage and background … and it was exciting for both of us,”
The host, No Abudu also invited the audience to suggest a good Nigerian name for Meghan Markle. They erupted with suggestions like, “Ifeoma” (a treasured thing in Igbo language.) Omowale in Yoruba, ( the child has come home)
