An Anglican priest, Rev. James Kemei, 43, was brutally killed in Nandi by a KDF officer who found him in an uncompromising situation with his wife. Rev. Kemei had visited the woman unaware of what the husband had planned.

The military officer had been tipped off by the priest occasionally visiting and staying over. He arrived at his home that night, sneaked into the house, and hid in one of the rooms without his wife or lover knowing about it.

The officer after waiting for the duo to go to bed emerged from his hiding and attacked them, immobilizing the priest. The enraged officer assaulted his wife and inflicted injuries on him including hammering nails into his spine.

According to the neighbours’ report, the officer forced his wife to watch him mutilating his genitals. A caller alerted the police to the violence on Thursday morning at around 3 a.m. according to Dickens Njogu, the Nandi police commander.

Njogu said, “It was only this morning when St. Barnabas Pro-Cathedral Provost Rev. Nillah Bassy came to make a formal report of the unfortunate incident that police officers moved in,”

Rev Kemei was rushed to Kapsabet Level 5 Hospital in critical condition. Later he was referred to Eldoret and was pronounced dead on arrival at Top Hill hospital. The KDF officer fled the incident and the police reported the issue to the superiors. Njogu added, “We have very scant details on the incident and DCI has taken over the investigation,” Efforts to get a word from ACK Bishop of Kabsabet Paul Korir were unsuccessful.
