Disabled People Are Into Kinky Sex: Myths About Disability And Sexuality

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Having a cognitive or physical disability doesn’t change your sexuality or your desire to express it. The World Health Organization says sexuality is an aspect of human beings that can’t be separated from the other aspects of life. There are several myths that surround sexuality and disability:

Disabled People Don’t Need Sex

Most people when they imagine a disabled person in their heads picture someone who is broken and needs care and who is in some ways weak or helpless. Disabled individuals may come off as asexual because that’s what society paints as disability. This mostly applies to people with profound impairments. The truth of the matter is that disabled people are like everybody else. They have all the same needs, sexual desires and fantasies. I hope this explanation puts the myth to rest.

Disabled People Should Only Have Sex With Each Other

Some disabled people prefer having sexual intercourse with other disabled people. This is because they understand each other’s life experiences since they share similar experiences. Other disabled people would also choose not to go out with disabled people since they say, “I don’t want to be a stereotype.” Most of the disabled people say that they want to fall in love with someone they like and have sex with someone they fancy. There’s nothing about disability that says disabled people should only have sex with other disabled people. Normally, it’s just a matter of attraction and preference.

Disability People Aren’t Sexy

‘Disabled people aren’t sexy’ that’s how society perceives disability. There are many disabled people whom people perceive to be sexy. There’s a new generation of disabled models who are pretty gorgeous and have a sexy disabled body.

Disabled People Have To Pay For Sex

This is particularly untrue for the majority of disabled people. A number of them pay for sex and some people claim that it’s because they are disabled. It’s very troubling not only how society perceives disabled people but also how they see themselves. Most people believe that disabled people have to pay to have sex with someone. The truth of the matter is that most disabled people will go out and have a relationship just like other people. Some people feel like disabled people don’t have the social skills that’s why they go out and pay for sex. It’s not true that most disabled people only get sex when they pay for it.

Disabled People Can Only Have Kinky Sex

Majority of the people believe that disability and kinky sex go in hand. This is not entirely true since some disabled people are going to do kinky stuff while other disabled people are not into kinky sex. There is no correlation between being disabled and being kinky. Another myth that most people believe is that you must be kinky for someone disabled to want to have sex with you. That is really troubling because it insults people who go out with disabled people because they fancy them and are not into kinky sex.
