Earl Spencer, the younger brother of the late Princess Diana has shared that he was sexually abused at a boarding school. Earl revealed this information in his memoir saying that he was targeted by a female staff at Maiden Hall, Northamptonshire where he studied. In his memoir, he shared that the sexual abuse began when he was only 11 years old.

In his memoir, Spencer alleged that a female staff member whom he described as a ‘voracious paedophile’ abused and groomed him and other boys in the dormitory at night. Earl said that he established that the female staff either lives abroad or is already dead. He also reported that the then-school headmaster John Porch gained ‘sexual pleasure from the violence’

After excerpts of the memoir were shared publicly, Maidwell Hall asserted that it was, ‘sobering to read about the experiences Charles Spencer, and some of his fellow alumni, had at the school, and we are sorry that was their experience.”

“It is difficult to read about practices which were, sadly, sometimes believed to be normal and acceptable at that time. Within education today, almost every facet of school life has evolved significantly since the 1970s. At the heart of the changes is the safeguarding of children, and promotion of their welfare.

The statement further read, “Although we have not directly received any claims from ex-pupils, considering what has been reported, the school has followed the statutory process and made a referral to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO). We would encourage anyone with similar experiences to come forward and contact us…”
